SYNOVIUM-ON-CHIP
SYNOVIUM-ON-CHIP is a microengineered platform that replicates the structure and function of the synovial membrane in vitro. It incorporates synoviocytes within a controlled microfluidic environment that mimics key features of the synovial niche, such as fluid flow, nutrient exchange, and
biochemical signaling.
This model enables the study of synovial physiology, homeostasis, and its role in joint function under both healthy and diseased conditions.
Potential applications
- Investigating synovial biology and tissue homeostasis
- Studying cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions within the synovium
- Analyzing cytokine production and signaling dynamics
- Screening anti-inflammatory and disease-modifying drugs
- Integrating immune components (e.g., immune cells) to model inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis
- Modeling patient-specific responses for precision medicine
