OSTEOCHONDRAL
-ON-CHIP
OSTEOCHONDRAL-ON-CHIP is a microphysiological system designed to recreate the interface between cartilage and subchondral bone. It integrates chondrocytes and osteoblasts (or stem-cell-derived counterparts) within a structured microenvironment that mimics the biochemical and mechanical gradients of the osteochondral unit.
This platform enables the study of tissue crosstalk and degeneration processes at the bone–cartilage interface.
Potential applications
- Investigating osteochondral crosstalk and tissue degeneration
- Studying osteoarthritis progression and cartilage breakdown
- Testing regenerative therapies and biomaterials
- Evaluating drug effects on cartilage and bone simultaneously
- Exploring mechanobiology under controlled loading conditions
